Medicare will launch an 18-month GLP-1 Bridge pilot program allowing beneficiaries on Part D plans to access weight-loss GLP-1 drugs for a $50 monthly copay, a 95% cost reduction. Previously, these drugs cost over $1,000 monthly and were not covered for obesity alone. The program aims to assess usage and costs to decide on permanent coverage by 2028. Eligibility requires prior authorization and a BMI of 27 or higher.
