Medicare premiums can catch many couples off guard if monthly planning isn’t in place. For example, in 2026, a standard-premium couple will need to cover $405.80 per month for Part B ($202.90 each), and that’s before Social Security deposits hit the account. One strategy I often discuss with clients involves pairing a three-ETF approach—dividend growth, higher monthly distributions, and ultra-short Treasury bills. This method helps manage those recurring premiums without having to sell off investments during market dips. With about 250 shares of a high-yield equity fund, annual dividends can cover a year’s worth of premiums. Alternatively, holding around 750 shares in a monthly income fund can align with steady monthly bills. The ultra-short Treasury-bill fund acts as a safety net, allowing couples to set aside 6–12 months of premiums and avoid selling equities during downturns. While a Social Security adjustment in 2027 may increase benefits by nearly 3%, planning ahead remains key to ensuring predictable income for Medicare expenses. My goal is always to help clients protect their financial future with solutions that bring peace of mind.
